Surrender the Gift

Surrender the Gift
Today we are ten days away from Christmas and fifteen days away from Valerie’s and my 33rd wedding anniversary. Both events—Christmas and our anniversary—represent a surrendering. Christ surrendered his kingly crown to come and be born in a manger. Valerie and I surrendered our individual rights to come together to form a new family. Along the way we have had opportunities to surrender anew to each other and to God.

House the Gift
December is probably the busiest month of the year for much of the world because of two major religious holidays and the ensuing parties and programs that happen as a result of these events. Both are characterized by the giving of gifts. If you were given a piece of art that you really loved but had no room to display it, you would begin to rearrange your home in order to “house the gift.”

Nourish the Gift
Last winter, my wife, my youngest daughter and I decided to go on a 30 day cleanse and eliminated all sugars from our diet and other unhealthy foods. At the end of the 30 days, we all felt better, had more energy and I lost weight. Whether it is our bodies, our minds, or our gifts, they all need nourishment. When it comes to our minds, we do control what we let in and entertain. With our gifts, how they develop depends on the nourishment we give them.

Find the Gift

Find the Gift
Is it just a “Guy Thing” or are men really inept when it comes to losing things. Keys are probably the number one thing guys misplace followed closely by anything else that’s important. My guess is the Magi or the Wise Men probably asked their wives for directions to find the Messiah, who in turn pointed them to the star in the sky.

Tax the Gift

Tax the Gift
I received a text late last night informing me that Valerie and Kelly who had boarded a plane in Iowa and had it de-iced were now taxiing back to the terminal because the pilots had gone over the time they were allowed to fly. They weren’t sure if they were going to have stay overnight in Iowa or catch another flight. Fortunately, another crew was available and I received another happy text they had landed in LAX. The taxiing incident did not “tax” their patience too much.
