Open the Gift
I’m usually pretty good at guessing what my Christmas gifts are going to be if they are given by my family. One of the reasons is that I give them a wish list and they usually get me what I ask for. My daughter, Kelly, is also good at guessing her gifts. We have a photo, though, of her opening the gift of her first mobile phone as a 7th grader and it captures the joy and excitement of being totally caught off guard by this unexpected gift. If you will “open the gift” you have been given, I guarantee you will be opening a new chapter in your life sure to bring you unexpected joy.
Like the Wise Men of old, will you "Open the Gift" today? Your gift is a means by which you can worship. Your gift is a treasure of great worth. Your gift will lay dormant, though, unless you open it and share it with those around you. Just as Jesus was God's gift to the world, Joseph and Mary had to open to the idea of parenting the Son of God. Had they failed to "Open the Gift" think of the blessing and adventures they would have missed. So on the day we celebrate the birth of the greatest Gift of all, "Open the Gift" of Christmas, "Open the Gift" of love. Open your heart to a Savior sent from God above.
After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:9-11 ESV)
