Brace for Impact

on Friday, January 04, 2013 | Category: General

Most of us remember what happened to US Airways flight 1549 four years ago as they took off from New York. Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger correctly instructed his passengers and crew to “Brace for Impact” as he landed the plane in the Hudson River. This TRINSPIRATION™ phrase has multi-layered meanings for us in 2013 even if we are not seated on a plane that is rapidly falling out of the sky. Here is the meat of a speech that I gave at a Toastmasters Contest and then my updated thoughts at the end.

Take a Hike

on Sunday, December 30, 2012 | Category: General

As I sit here at my computer, I’m reflecting back on thirty years ago today. I was preparing to get married in the evening. It was a Thursday evening wedding. I know, that’s a strange day of the week to get married. However, my family lived in Missouri and we were getting married in Los Angeles. Coupled with the fact that my parents were educators and Christmas vacation was one of the few times we could schedule our nuptials, we went ahead…on a Thursday. We also chose the 30th of December because it was my sister’s birthday. It made it doubly special for us and another reason for a weekday wedding.

Top Three TRINSPIRATION™ Phrases of 2012

on Friday, December 28, 2012 | Category: General

It’s that time of year again. You know, the time when all of the critics release their Top Ten Lists. Of course, there is the ubiquitous Top Ten Movies for the year, coupled with the Top Ten Albums. And in many fields you will find the Top Ten Athletes, Top Ten Authors, etc. Since launching trinspiration.com and releasing our first TRINSPIRATION™ book, Recognize Your Significance, I thought it appropriate to pick my Top Ten TRINSPIRATION™ phrases from the year. Having been collecting these pithy aphorisms for over 13 years, I decided to limit myself to choosing the phrases that I had discovered this year that had come from a commercial source, i.e. a book, advertising slogan, television, blog, etc. I allowed myself one exception to that rule and chose one phrase from Coach Eric Bell, Head Coach of the Texas Christian University Women’s Soccer team. I’ll get to it in a minute.

Pray For Peace

on Friday, December 14, 2012 | Category: General

America is mourning today. Many are praying for peace after a 20 year old gunman entered an elementary school and opened fire on a kindergarten classroom in Newtown, CT, killing 20 young students, six adults and then himself. For 26 families, this will not be a Merry Christmas. Before we even knew many of the details, people in politics and the media were attempting to turn this into a political debate. I’m not going to take the bait to write about gun control because that is not what my life is about. I’m here to encourage people to make positive steps on a daily basis. So how do we do that on a day like today?

Run Your Campus-The Mall Part 5

Written by Rodney Johnson on Tuesday, December 04, 2012 | Category: General

Before I left the mall to go pick up my hopelessly antiquated Blackberry phone, I sauntered into Finish Line, now expecting to find at least one TRINSPIRATION™ phrase. I had already found a total of four phrases in the previous two stores I had visited so why shouldn’t I expect to find more? Finish Line didn’t disappoint. Emblazoned on both walls was the poster bearing the words: “Run Your Campus.” A characteristic of a classic TRINSPIRATION™ phrase is that it can have multiple meanings on as many levels. This is certainly the case with “Run Your Campus.”
